Dear friends and partners of Empower New Energy,

We are excited to share another edition of Empower New Energy’s newsletter. This year, our focus has been to execute and commission multiple solar investments in four different countries in Africa. Behind each solar project, there are hundreds of parts that can fail and derail the investment, and therefore must be diligently checked and monitored. We are therefore proud to report that, so far in 2024, we have successfully completed and commissioned a total of 13 solar plants, increasing the number of solar projects under active operation from 6 to 19.

One of our latest achievements is the completion of the roof, ground, and carport-mounted solar plant for Barry Callebaut. "The solar partnership with Empower New Energy is part of our ‘Forever Chocolate Strategy’, making chocolate production 100 per cent sustainable”, said Krishnakumar R. Pillai, CEO Barry Callebaut Ghana at the occasion.

In Nigeria, the Chairman and co-founder of Justrite Superstores wanted a solution that cuts at least 80 % of their diesel consumption and save energy cost. In June, we were delighted to host Norway’s Ambassador Svein Baera and other dignitaries celebrating the achievement. The 7 MUSD investment covers ten of Justrite sites outside Lagos, Ogun and Oyo, and totals 3.05 MWp Solar PV, 6MWh of battery storage and an energy management system finetuned to minimise Justrite’s dependence on fossil fuels. During construction and maintenance, it is vital to ensure proper standards of Environmental and Social Governance are upheld, including respect of Health and Safety. For Empower New Energy it is important not only to set standards, but to work closely with our local partners to make sure all contractors and constructions can meet the standards adequately.

This year, Empower New Energy has made significant steps in entering a few carefully selected new markets, notably Tunisia, Cameroon, and Zambia. In Kenya, our first investment - a 2.5 MW ground-mounted solar plant for Abyssinia Steel is under construction, and planned for completion later this year.

Empower New Energy team has been growing and strengthening our presence in key markets.  We are now a team of 27 from 15 different nationalities working in Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Tunisia in addition to the team in Europe.

As we work towards a more sustainable energy future for Africa, we extend our warm wishes to our valued friends and partners.

Thank you for being a crucial part of our journey!

Warm regards,

The Empower New Energy Team
