Empower New Energy (ENE) is thrilled to announce its first solar investment in Tunis, unveiling a transformative partnership with the Mall of Sousse. The two entities solidified their commitment to sustainable innovation by signing a Power Support Agreement (PSA) that will pave the way for an ambitious solar energy project. Indigo Renewables Energy Solutions, our Tunisian technical partner, will be responsible for the construction and the operations and maintenance of the system.
At the heart of this initiative lies a state-of-the-art 948 kWp solar roof system, destined for the Mall of Sousse in Kalâa Kebira. The Mall of Sousse is an architectural marvel that spans over 130,000 square meters and houses more than 200 retail stores, attracting between 7 to 10 million visitors annually.
“I am delighted to sign Empower New Energy’s first solar investment project in Tunisia, a country that already suffers from the effects of global warming and where fossil fuels represent half of Tunisia’s import bill and accounts for 97 % of the country’s energy-mix”, says Terje Osmundsen CEO in Empower New Energy.
“This project not only emphasizes our dedication to clean energy but also positions the Mall of Sousse as a beacon of green retail in Tunisia”, said Mouadh Kacem of Indigo Properties
This solar project is not merely about energy; it symbolizes a pivotal moment in the transition towards a sustainable future, responding to the rise of eco-conscious consumers and a growing demand from international retail brands for greener practices. The roof mounted system is projected to produce around 1,400 MWh of clean energy each year, saving more than 1000 tons CO2 per year.
